The Rev. Carl J. Richardson is installed as associate pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau; he has been serving at Trinity for the past year as a colloquy vicar.
Home Savings of America, based in Walnut Grove, Calif., has completed a lease agreement with Drury Development Co. for a 47,000-square-foot tract at the northeast corner of William Street and Mount Auburn Road and will begin construction soon of a 7,000-square-foot building to house the firm's operation.
50 years ago: March 18, 1959
The Cape Grocers Association announces an expansion program that will allow an increase in the membership and will enlarge its warehouse space by almost 60 percent; the warehouse at 1901 Independence St. will be enlarged to about 21,500 square feet, 8,000 square feet more than its current 13,500 square feet.
Negotiations with contractors were completed yesterday by airport board officials; certain items in plans for a new municipal airport administration building were deleted to bring the contract cost within the amount of available construction funds.
75 years ago: March 18, 1934
Weather, competing with the March-to-Church Campaign, cuts down on church attendance; 3,892 persons attend morning and evening services at 15 churches; this is about half of the attendance recorded last Sunday.
A large confirmation class of boys and girls is presented to the congregation of Christ Evangelical Church; the class will join the church by confession of faith or confirmation on Palm Sunday.
100 years ago: March 18, 1909
The new Duplex printing press for The Daily Republican has arrived and, as contractor E.F. Regenhardt expects to complete the foundation piers this week, arrangements have been made with the expert from the factory to be here next week to set up the machine; this will be the largest printing press in use between St. Louis and Little Rock, Ark.
Ensign W.T. Child of the battleship Georgia is in Jackson visiting his fiancee, Julia McGuire, the daughter of the editor of the Cash Book; at the close of his visit, they will go to Philadelphia, where his fleet is stationed.
