The old Bremermann house on Broadway was being razed in March 1963 to make way for a new First Federal Savings and Loan Association building. The old Bremermann house in the 300 block of Broadway is being razed to make way for a new building for First Federal Savings and Loan Association; the structure, long a landmark beside the post office, along with several others will be removed for the new building and accompanying parking lot.

Louis Williams Jr., of Cape Girardeau will leave Tuesday for Gabon, Africa, to begin a 20-month Peace Corps assignment for which he recently completed training.

1938

Aid to tornado-stricken families in the vicinity of Oak Ridge is being given through the Cape Girardeau County chapter of the American Red Cross; Lelia A. Storm, recently appointed executive secretary for the chapter, and chamber of commerce manager Don Foster transport a quantity of foodstuffs to the needy families; they appeal to the public for clothing for the families who lost their homes.

The Works Progress Administration orders 40 more laborers for the new park project on Highway 61; work at the park is centered on construction of the big arena building; the project now involves a total of 115 men, working in two shifts.

1913

Palm Sunday. A union worship service is held in the evening at Centenary Methodist Church; guest speaker is the Rev. Edward Thomson, secretary of the Sunday School League.

At Trinity Lutheran Church, the rite of confirmation is performed at the morning worship hour; the children confirmed in the German language are Harry Mansfield, Willie Mansfield, Anton Schmittzehe, Edward Schaefer, Alvin Schwab, Alfred Wilder, Lena Weisenstein, Olga Haertling and Anita Schwab; those confirmed in English are Theodore Heise, Herman Heise, Raymond Strom, Ernst Koeppel, Luther Brindley, Ella Puchbauer, Gertrude Kocher, May Stevens, Myrtle Schrader, Jennie Goza, Tillie Schwab and Thelka Schwab.
