Outlining work to be done at the Holiday Inn, Dan M. Drury, director of operations for MidAmerica Hotels, reports work will include a new lounge, expansion of the motel lobby, remodeling and redecoration of the dining room, the addition of 32 executive suites bridging the area between the motel and the convention center, and redecorating the convention center.

Karen L. Richter, marketing director of West County Center in St. Louis County for the past two years, has been named marketing director for West Park Mall.

50 years ago: March 14, 1957

Fire chief Carl Lewis and County Sanitarian Marvin Campbell are designated by Mayor Walter H. Ford to make a thorough inspection of nursing homes in Cape Girardeau in conformance with a directive from Gov. James T. Blair Jr., received yesterday.

Larry Nowak has declared his candidacy for mayor of Jackson, subject to the city election April 2; Mayor J.R. Mabrey, who is ending his third term, won't be a candidate, it is understood.

75 years ago: March 14, 1932

Members of the Rotary Club have their noon luncheon at the new water plant as the guests of the utility company and Rotarian A.L. Abington; in addition to his duties as plant superintendent for the utility company, Abington is also the chef for the employees' organization and has gained quite a reputation as a caterer.

Four men have been employed by John Popp to clean debris from lots along the Mississippi River north of Broadway; ruins of the old, five-story mill building, which was destroyed by fire two years ago, are being cleared away, along with several sheds and small buildings.

100 years ago: March 14, 1907

According to statements in St. Louis newspapers, the government isn't satisfied with the prices set on Cape Girardeau property by the commissioners appointed to appraise the Broadway sites; they are quoted as saying that a site could have been purchased in the center of St. Louis for a price about like that asked for the property here.

President L.J. Albert Jr. of the Commercial Club has been informed that a wagon factory will be moved to Cape Girardeau from another Missouri town.
