The new Trinity Lutheran Church at North Frederick and Themis streets in Cape Girardeau will be dedicated the afternoon of May 1, which will begin a week of dedication events for the $2.5 million facility.

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The bubble burst for the Southeast Missouri State University's men's basketball team yesterday, when the Indians fell 87-73 to Florida Southern in the NCAA Division II South Quarterfinals.

50 years ago: March 13, 1957

The Cape Girardeau traffic bridge, now approaching its 30th birthday, will be made toll free June 29 under plans announced by the commissioners of the Cape Special Road District.

A recommendation that the Corps of Engineers be asked to make a survey looking to the establishment of permanent harbor facilities on the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau was adopted by the river development committee of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday; the present wharf at the foot of Themis Street will be lost due to construction of the floodwall along Water Street.

75 years ago: March 13, 1932

Ten boys and girls will be confirmed Sunday at Christ Evangelical Church at Cape Girardeau in the morning; they are Lily Stein, Lorene Schulenberg, Hugo A. Lang, Edna Graden, Liane Brinkopf, Fred Kurre, Louis Geldmacher, Mary D. Koehler, Paul A. Koehler and Wilbur Best.

Charles, 12, son of Henry M. Dalton of Cape Girardeau, receives a cold dunking in the afternoon, when he breaks through the ice while skating on the lagoon at Fairground Park; he flounders almost 10 minutes before he is rescued by a passing motorist.

100 years ago: March 13, 1907

Because of the severe rains of the last two days, the Frisco Railroad is having considerable trouble on the line between Cape Girardeau and St. Louis again; yesterday, there were one or two slides of earth toward the river; last night, part of a trestle spanning a creek about 50 miles from St. Louis went out with the onrushing water.

The basket factory at Cape Girardeau is running at night, and a force of more than 100 people is employed; the wheelbarrow factory is enjoying similar prosperity.
