Dedication of an educational building, an overflow room and a piano took place at Hobbs Chapel last Sunday; it was noted that the two-story educational building was built and paid for in eight months.
Craftsman's Independent Union, Local 1, moves from 2858 Professional Court to 2709 Bloomfield Road, a location formerly occupied by a retail grocery and owned by the Maxwell Company, which has a location in the basement level of the structure; the union has more than 200 members.

The Rev. Franklin D. Schmittzehe will be ordained into the priesthood Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral by Bishop Charles H. Helmsing; Schmittzehe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Schmittzehe of Cape Girardeau.
The Lion's Club Pancake Day is held at Schneiders, with 3,425 people being served; a total of 107 more people are served this year than at last year's event; Paul Loiseau is general chairman of Pancake Day.
75 years ago: March 11, 1934
A transient, looking for a place to get warm, is frightened away from Centenary Methodist Church at 3 a.m. by Paul Winters, who had gone there to start a fire in the church furnace.
A drugstore at 1000 S. Sprigg St., operated for two years by A.L. Waddle, has been sold to Russell Matzen, who has taken charge; Waddle plans to go to Harrisburg, Ark., where he formerly lived and where he may open a drugstore; Harold Heuschober, employed by Waddle, will remain as an assistant to Matzen.
100 years ago: March 11, 1909
The Odd Fellows' Lodge has rented the hall over L.H. Graessle's grocery store on Broadway and is having it fitted up for meeting purposes; the organization has been growing rapidly.
The oil house of the Cape Girardeau & Chester Railroad near the roundhouse burns about 7 a.m.; although the oil and waste are saved, the house is destroyed; employees on duty have time to roll the barrels of oil and bales of cotton waste out of the house, keeping the fire from spreading to the roundhouse and the master mechanic's office, both of which are nearby.
