25 years ago: March 11, 1982

The Southeast Missouri State University basketball team boards a plane in the morning for Lakeland, Fla., and their NCAA Division II quarterfinal contest with the Moccasins of Florida Southern, slated for tomorrow.

Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. will close its office at 724 Broadway in Cape Girardeau on Monday; customer service records are being transferred to the company's new regionalized office at 351 Silver Springs Road.

50 years ago: March 11, 1957

The Maple Avenue Methodist Church on South Ellis street in Cape Girardeau is badly damaged by fire at noon; according to fire chief Carl Lewis, if the firemen had been four or five minutes later in arriving, the entire building would have been lost.

The Cape Girardeau City Council gives Mayor Walter H. Ford authority to initiate steps to procure a government loan to provide funds for plans for a sewage disposal plant here ordered by the Missouri Division of Health.

75 years ago: March 11, 1932

Gordonville will keep its railroad depot; the Missouri Pacific Railroad, appearing before the Missouri Public Service Commission at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce building, withdraws its application to abandon stations at Gordonville, Glen Allen, Mo., Delassus, Mo., and Knob Lick, Mo.

As the deadline nears for filing for the upcoming municipal election, Adolph F. Dietrich throws his hat in the ring for mayor of Cape Girardeau, the fifth candidate for that post; 32 men have filed for city council.

100 years ago: March 11, 1907

Louis Krueger, who disappeared from his place of business on Broadway last Thursday, came home Saturday night from a business trip to St. Louis; from Cape Girardeau, he went to Chaffee, Mo., and then to Thebes, Ill.; from there, he went up to St. Louis.

The Peironnet-Wilson store in Cape Girardeau is still closed; it is thought that the work of dividing the stock between the former partners will be finished in a day or so, and then both stores will open for business.
