Boards of education for two districts which won voter approval yesterday will be elected April 6 at regular school election, says County Supt. Edwin W. Sander; six-member board at Jackson and others incorporated into it ceased to function on passage of reorganization proposal for District R-2, and three-member boards for seven districts in R-7, centering on Millersville, also were eliminated.
ORAN, Mo. - Mayor Abram Hirschowitz, president of Southeast Missouri Mayors Association, says efforts will be made to interest Air Force in selecting site in district for proposed Air Force Academy.
75 years ago: March 11, 1929
Missouri Pacific Railroad has broken with Frisco over plan to use Gulf line in extending its tracks to Cape Girardeau from Thebes bridge and instead will follow its original plan of building new line; since satisfactory arrangement couldn't be worked out with Frisco, Mo-Pac has decided to build line parallel with Gulf line into Cape Girardeau.
Imogene Carlisle, nutritionist of American Red Cross, arrives in Cape Girardeau to begin intensive nutrition service in cooperation with local Red Cross chapter; she plans to hold classes in all grades of public and parochial schools, as well as for mothers in conjunction with Parent-Teacher work.
