ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Southeast Missouri State basketball Otahkians, who Saturday defeated host Alaska-Anchorage Sea Wolves 80-65 in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional, will face Central Missouri State in the regional championship game Tuesday.

The Cape Girardeau County Commission meets in executive session with Sheriff Dwight Thomas to discuss concerns regarding the status of 11 sheriff's employees whose commissions were taken away last month; the county has advertised for bids for a police and professional liability insurance policy, but the price of any policy depends on the status of the 11 deputies.

50 years ago: March 10, 1961

Auxiliary police officer Herbert L. Goss is killed and officer Donald Crittendon is critically wounded by two armed fugitives as they and other officers sought to question the pair about a possible holdup attempt at the Cape Girardeau Kroger store.

The location for the new Wetterau Grocer Co. warehouse and headquarters has been narrowed to two possible sites in the area; the company is considering the Adams tract along the Frisco Railroad near U.S. 74 and also adjacent to U.S. 61 at the southwest edge of Cape Girardeau, and a tract in the southwest part of Scott City.

75 years ago: March 10, 1936

Lt. Harry L. Clark, commander of the Civilian Conservation Corps camp near McClure, Ill., has been appointed a co-pilot for the American Airways Inc. at Chicago and will report for duty next Monday; his family resides in Cape Girardeau.

William C. Hartung, proprietor of a sporting goods store on Broadway, has filed as a candidate for the Republican nomination for county sheriff; John Wescoat has also filed for that post.

100 years ago: March 10, 1911

JEFFERSON CITY -- Gov. H.S. Hadley has nominated H.E. Schultz of Caruthersville, Mo., as a member of the board of regents of the Cape Girardeau Normal School for a six-year term; the Senate must approve the nomination.

N.S. Weiler, who yesterday was announced as a candidate on a new municipal ticket, says he will not be a candidate for alderman in the fourth ward.
