Recommendations for reshaping the teacher education program at Southeast Missouri State University are in the hands of president Dr. Bill W. Stacy; Dr. Leslie H. Cochran, provost, submits 17 recommendations to Stacy, including one to phase out the laboratory school.

A special study committee at State College has submitted to president Mark F. Scully a report on projected enrollments based on district births, which forecasts a possible maximum of 10,627 students on the campus 14 years from now; the study recommends the college begin now in planning needs and locations of future academic and service buildings.

The Cape Girardeau City Council has decided there will be no further appropriation out of the park fund for improvements at Fairground Park after the paving of West End Boulevard has been completed; after the paving is finished, the fund will have only $1,800, which must be used for maintenance during the rest of the year.

Antone Gockel, who left Germany in the early 1850s and settled in Cape Girardeau, dies at the home of his son, August, at age 88; Gockel established a teaming, transfer and livery business here and was the pioneer stage coach runner out of this city, carrying the mails from Cape Girardeau to Jackson, Sedgewickville, Mo., and Patton, Mo., more than a half century ago.
