The Westborough Mall site is apparently back in the running as a potential location for a multipurpose building in Cape Girardeau; an agent representing the owners of the site contacted Mayor Howard C. Tooke over the weekend and indicated an interest in making the site available for the arena project.

Southeast Missouri Hospital formally announces its intention to seek a certificate of need for the establishment of open-heart surgery facilities; target date to begin procedures is spring 1984.

Led by Walter Grebing's 31 points, the Central High Tigers roll to an easy 71-55 victory over the Farmington (Mo.) Black Knights; Bill Geissing of the Knights tangles with Grebing in a scoring duel and comes out on top with a total of 34 points.

Dean G. Taylor of Taylor's Oldsmobile Inc. announces that plans are being completed for the sale of the agency on Independence Street within the next week; Taylor took over the agency in 1955, coming here from McLeansboro, Ill.

Illmo Mayor D.T. Dorris is informed by the secretary of the Reconstruction Finance Corp. in Washington that an application for a $42,000 loan of federal funds to build the waterworks system there has been approved.

An option to purchase the property on Broadway adjacent on the east of the Federal Building and occupied by the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bremermann as a site for the proposed new office building has been taken by the Gilsonite Construction Co. of Dallas; tentative negotiations have also been made for options on other Broadway sites.

100 years ago: March 1, 1908

The Palace Restaurant in Cape Girardeau is open day and night under new management; L.R. Mahar is the proprietor.

Robert Haman, who has been in charge of the shoe department at the Bee Store for many years, has taken a similar position with the Buckner-Ragsdale Co.; Haman is one of the most competent and agreeable salesmen in Cape Girardeau, and "Quality Corner" is fortunate in securing his services.
