John A. Adams, basketball coach at State College, denies report that he has resigned from his post, but acknowledges that he is interested in leaving coaching field; one report said he had resigned and another that he had given college authorities notice that he is seeking another position, leaving them free to find successor; Adams, now in his third year with Indians, says nether report is correct.
Fonnie Jones was lowest bidder for painting of interior of Houck Field House, which he will start Monday; he expects to complete job within three weeks, or few days before State High School Class B Basketball Tournament, which opens March 11; Jones' bid was $3,125.
75 years ago: Feb. 9, 1927
Origin of fire which early yesterday morning destroyed roadhouse on lower Bend Road, three miles north of Cape Girardeau, hasn't been determined; place burned to ground day after it had been purchased by Luther Casper, who operates Canary Tavern just outside city limits; roadhouse was located on Juden Creek, 50 yards off lower Bend Road, and near Hobbs Chapel.
Twenty-month-old baby girl, abandoned in old house by its parents and left to starve, was found about week ago in town south of Cape Girardeau; child is bright, but when found was almost starved and has been under care of physician past week.
