Cape Girardeau City Councilman Howard C. Tooke leads field of nine in city council primary election and will be joined in April's general election by Donald R. Strohmeyer, Gail D. "Woody" Woodfin and Timothy L. Kelley.

First major step toward development and installation of disaster warning system for Cape Girardeau will be taken Wednesday night, when city council will vote to have specifications for system drawn up.

KENNETT, Mo. -- Surplus commodity food will be shipped into Dunklin County to relieve about 3,000 people who are without food or funds.

Frame implement building filled with farm machinery owned by Glen Grindstaff at Patton Junction is destroyed by fire; loss is nearly $5,000.

To give their law enforcement officials at least even break with modern, highly organized criminal gangs, city and county officials and bankers association of Cape Girardeau are considering plans to equip officers with sub-machine guns, high-powered rifles and other equipment to adequately compete with bandits.
