Cape Girardeau County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Larry Ferrell is the first person to file for the prosecuting attorney's job being vacated by Stephen Limbaugh Jr. in November.

P.K. Stubbs, who operates a store at 1606 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau, says he has opened the Pak-a-Snak Grill at the same address.

Purchase of three parcels of property for future expansion is authorized at a congregational business meeting of the First Baptist Church; to be acquired are two brick houses at 910 and 912 Broadway owned by Dr. A.L. Fuerth and a two-story residence at 239 N. Pacific St. owned by Mrs. A.F. McFerron.

75 years ago: Feb. 27, 1932

Contractor W.J. Gerhardt announces that construction work on the annex to the Federal Building in Cape Girardeau will begin March 6; the building is to be completed within six months, but Gerhardt believes it can be finished by July.

Trachtenberg's, a new store which will deal exclusively in children's and women's clothing and millinery, formally opens at 111 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau; the store is owned and operated by Meyer Trachtenberg, formerly of Chicago, who came here several weeks ago with his family.

100 years ago: Feb. 27, 1907

Joseph Kaminer, who has been conducting a clothing store in Cape Girardeau since last fall, announces he will close the local store in order to give his entire attention to his big store in East St. Louis, Ill.

TW.T. Wilson announces that he and H.P. Peironnet have decided to dissolve their partnership, and that early in March he will open up in the Houck building, opposite the Sturdivant Bank on Main Street; that space is now occupied by the Kaminer store.
