25 years ago: Feb. 25, 1985

Despite a weekend deluge that caused major flooding and was blamed for three deaths statewide, no serious flooding problems were reported in Cape Girardeau or Southeast Missouri; however, heavy rains did add to damage on winter-weakened county roads; county officials have requested school buses be kept off the county's gravel roads for the time being.

Forty-eight Southeast Missouri Boy Scouts received Eagle badges during a Court of Honor ceremony here yesterday; sponsor for the class was federal Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh.

50 years ago: Feb. 25, 1960

After missing the Cape Girardeau area all winter, a predicted snow piled up four inches overnight, crippling the movement of traffic and closing many schools; it is the first snowfall of any consequence this winter.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- One hundred forty-six bales of cotton were damaged by fire and 100 bales by water in a blaze at the Sikeston Compress yesterday; Sikeston firemen were at the scene more than six hours.

75 years ago: Feb. 25, 1935

Winter comes back to Cape Girardeau after a breath of spring; after hitting a maximum of 65 degrees yesterday, the weather breaks early in the morning and the mercury sinks to the freezing mark by early afternoon.

Remodeling of a building at 39-41 N. Main St., owned by Louis Hecht, will be completed this week; the entire front of the store has been changed, and a modernistic style employed with the use of black carrara and frosted glass, white stone panels, and nickel and copper metal stripping; Irvin's, a clothing store, will occupy the north side of the building.

100 years ago: Feb. 25, 1910

At last night's meeting of Cape Girardeau residents in the Commercial Club rooms, every question of granting new privileges to the Frisco Railroad was carefully examined; each speaker seemed of the opinion that, in view of the existing conditions, the Frisco wasn't entitled to any favors at the hands of the city until violated obligations had been adjusted.

E.L. Ross and Louis Blattner, two young farmers who have been attending the agricultural college at Columbia, Mo., will return home tomorrow.
