Although it appears the harsh winter has ended, it is still taking its toll on school calendars, forcing schools to make up all those snow days; for Jackson students, that means no Easter break this year, and classes will end May 28, two days later than originally scheduled.

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Members of the school boards of Chaffee and Delta met yesterday with administrators of both schools and members of an ad hoc committee studying the possibility of reorganizing the two districts; the proposal met little opposition.

50 years ago: Feb. 24, 1957

The opening ceremonies of the Cape Girardeau Catholic building fund campaign is held in the afternoon at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Charles H. Helmsing, D.D., bishop of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese in attendance; Catholics in the city are raising money to build a new rectory at St. Mary's and a new elementary school for St. Vincent's.

Phillip L. Kearney, manager of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, is making arrangements to move his wife and seven children from Joplin, Mo., to Cape Girardeau; they will make their home at 306 Independence St., where Mr. and Mrs. Fred Springer have been residing.

75 years ago: Feb. 24, 1932

Through barge traffic from St. Louis to New Orleans will resume for the summer season March 4, when an express packet boat will depart from St. Louis for New Orleans.

The huge steel reservoir being erected by the Missouri Utilities Co. north of the Teachers College likely will be filled with water tonight to test for leaks; after this test has been completed, the reservoir will be painted and cleaned for use in the city's water system.

100 years ago: Feb. 24, 1907

The Rev. A. Kistler of the Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau is absent from the pulpit, but President W.S. Dearmont of the Normal School preaches in his stead; Kistler is in Kennett, Mo., holding special services there.

The Rev. James Douglass of St. James AME Church in Cape Girardeau begins an old-fashioned revival here; he is assisted by the Rev. H.H. McAllister, the conference evangelist.
