The commissioners of the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority have approved a contract with Neal Adams of SEMO Energy Center Inc. to develop and negotiate contracts that could lead to the port authority constructing and owning an electric transmission line from Sikeston, Mo., to the port.

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Suggesting Democratic voters need a choice in the August primary, H. Riley Bock becomes the third Democrat to file for Congress in the 8th District; Bock lives in New Madrid and practices law with his brother in Portageville, Mo.

1963

The disputed proposal to rezone property off North Sprigg Street was decided last night in favor of the owners of the property, when the city council ordered an ordinance to reclassify the tract; property owners John H. Freeze and Lory Stahly wish to erect a housing unit on the tract, possibly for married students or faculty; Commissioner J.W. McBride suggested that the entire State College area be considered for a blanket zoning proposal.

Membership in the Lloyd Dale Clippard Post 3838 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is 583, making it the third largest in the state.

1938

The Mississippi River continues upward, rising another 2 feet in the past 24 hours at Cape Girardeau to reach a stage of 21.1 feet; residents of Dunklin County are watching with growing apprehension for the test of the new levees built during the past year to protect them from floodwaters of the St. Francis River.

Predicted for a week, an almost blown-out blizzard finally reaches Cape Girardeau to the accompaniment of a heavy snow in the morning and a cold rain later.

1913

The board of directors of the Cape Fair and Park Association has sent letters to each stockholder asking him to meet at the Cape Girardeau courthouse Saturday to decide the future of the association; the organization is about $7,000 in debt; this debt must be paid if the fair is to continue.

Mrs. Leroy Moore and Reena Shaner are attending the state executive meeting of the W.C.T.U. at Sedalia, Mo., this week; the board will leave there tomorrow for Jefferson City, Mo., to appear before the Legislature in the interest of the white slave bill.
