Fifty-four Southeast Missouri Council Boy Scouts will be honored Sunday when the council holds its annual Eagle Scout Court of Honor at Rose Theatre on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University; sponsor for the class will be 8th District Rep. Bill Emerson of Cape Girardeau.

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Chaffee High School principal Roger Tatum announces at a school board meeting that he has accepted the position of principal at Kelly High School, beginning in the fall of 1986.

50 years ago: Feb. 18, 1961

Lt. Roland G. Busch Jr., who escaped death in the crash of his plane during the Korean War and spent 17 months in a prisoner-of-war camp, was reported killed yesterday when his Navy fighter plane went into the water off the coast of California; Busch had been based on the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga.

Support of legislation to permit older residents of the state to fish and hunt without a state license is announced by Rep. Herbert F. Hemperley, member of the legislature from Cape Girardeau County; a resolution seeking a constitutional amendment to permit free fishing has been introduced in the House by Rep. George J. Germain of Scott County.

75 years ago: Feb. 18, 1936

Riding out of the ice- and snowbound Northwest, winter's most frigid gale swept into the region overnight on the wings of a snow storm; the temperature at Cape Girardeau drops to 6 1/2 degrees below zero and to 10 below at Jackson, the coldest readings in the county since 1930.

Appearing before the school board last night at Central High School, a joint committee from St. Vincent's and St. Mary's parishes asked if it would be possible for the board to take the parochial schools of the two Catholic units as auxiliary parts of the public school system.

100 years ago: Feb. 18, 1911

The dry goods firm of E. Drusch & Co. has moved into its newly completed building at the corner of Broadway and Ellis Street; the building is two stories high, having three flats on the upper floor and a splendid basement under the entire building.

The new ferryboat, Gladys, starts in service, making several trips and doing a good business; the boat is owned by A.C. Jaynes.
