A temporary organization for a new Lutheran congregation in Cape Girardeau was effected at an open meeting held recently, when a petition was drawn up asking Trinity congregation's blessing on the sister congregation plans; approximately 75 communicants of Trinity have declared they would like to take part in setting up the new congregation.

Marquette Cement Mfg. Co.'s new $7,000,000 plant turned out its first cement clinker yesterday as the huge 450-foot kiln was fired for the first time; no cement is being made, however, as work remains to be done on the silos.

75 years ago: Feb. 17, 1932

Free garbage disposal in Cape Girardeau for another 12 months is in the offing; the city council has authorized City Commissioner Phillip Steck to sign contracts with men who have agreed to collect and dispose of the garbage for no other remuneration than the garbage itself, which will be used as hog feed.

The formal opening of the Missouri Brokerage Co.'s new store in Cape Girardeau is greeted by a large crowd; the store occupies the M. Samuels Building.

100 years ago: Feb. 17, 1907

It is understood that the physicians of Cape Girardeau will charge a minimum fee of $1.50 for a day visit, $2.50 for a night visit, $15 for a simple obstetrical case, and other fees in proportion.

Notice is given by the local telephone company that the charge for service over the line running to Chaffee, Mo., has been reduced to 15 cents; heretofore, the charge had been 35 cents; improvements of the line have enabled the company to cut its price.
