Harry A. Naeter Jr., whose uncles founded the Southeast Missourian and who worked in every department of newspaper from printers' devil to publisher, dies at his home, Boulder Crest; he was 76.

After far surpassing previous tonnage records in 1993, Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority has started new year where it left off; in January, net tonnage for port was 30,454, which is third highest single-month total in port's history.

25 years ago: Feb. 16, 1979

County court has asked cities of Cape Girardeau and Jackson to consider helping in purchase of radio equipment for rural fire departments to establish weather warning and emergency service in county.

Clarence Finley becomes third person to file for three-year term on Cape Girardeau Board of Education; Finley is former Junior High School teacher; other who have filed are incumbents Kent Cargle and Judi McBride.

50 years ago: Feb. 16, 1954

Rain, first of any consequence in 21 days, fell over Southeast Missouri last night and today; of total of 2.12 inches, 54/100ths falls after 11 a.m., starting with driving rain interspersed with heavy hail.

Jesse L. Seabaugh of Friedheim killed large female wolf which was traveling with mate yesterday on Herbert Brune farm, one mile northwest of Daisy; Seabaugh brought wolf to Jackson, where he received county bounty of $15.

75 years ago: Feb. 16, 1929

Public hearing at which city plan for Cape Girardeau as drawn by Harland Bartholomew will be explained will be held at Common Pleas Courthouse Wednesday night; hearing will be under direction of City Plan Commission, of which Charles L. Harrison is chairman.

Andrew Dirnberger, 62, prominent merchant and postmaster of New Hamburg, Mo., died yesterday at St. Francis Hospital; Dirnberger had been resident of Scott County all of his life, having been born there Feb. 4, 1867.
