The Rev. Craig L. Nessan is installed as the new pastor of St. Mark Lutheran Church during the morning worship service; installing minister is the Rev. Herbert C. Peterson, assistant to the bishop of the Illinois Synod of the Lutheran Church in America.
The congregation of Calvary Cross Interdenominational Church is now holding services at 105 S. Hanover St.; its former place of worship was on Independence Street; pastor of Calvary Cross is the Rev. Ellston Chapman.
At the Exchange Club's National Crime Prevention Week dinner last night, Mayor Walter Ford accepted a plaque honoring police officers Donald H. Crittendon and Herbert L. Goss, who were killed on duty last March; the plaque will be erected under a tree in Common Pleas Courthouse Park.
Work has begun on a $100,000 clay mill to be located just south of Oran, Mo.; of wood and tin construction, the building will measure 120 by 50 feet; when completed, the mill will employ about 25 people.
Plans are being completed for moving all flood refugees now in Cape Girardeau to two buildings on West Broadway; refugees will be quartered in Houck Field House and the Adams Building opposite the field house.
A building at Fairground Park, formerly used as the office for the secretary of the Cape County Fair Association, is being remodeled by the city into a dwelling to be occupied by the park caretaker, Frank Martin, and family; the family's household goods were destroyed in the fire that burned down the Community Clubhouse.
A telegram has been received by the stewards of First Baptist Church saying that the Rev. F.Y. Campbell of Sedalia, Mo., has accepted the call to the pastorate of the Cape Girardeau church; he will be here in time to begin his duties Sunday.
O.J. Drury of Menfro, Mo., has moved his family to Cape Girardeau and will occupy the Ed Regenhardt property on North Henderson Avenue; he is hoping to start a poultry business here.
