Leaving its parking place on slanting Lacy Street, a Buick sedan owned by Dr. J.A. Beebe dashed across Broadway, wove between trees of Fairground Park and slid into the lagoon for a Saturday night bath, breaking a thin coating of ice as it did so.
Testing out the efficiency of his men under stress of emergency, Lt. Herbert F. Wickham mobilizes the personnel of 3rd Battalion Headquarters Company of Missouri National Guard at 4:10 a.m.; an hour later, all but three members of the company are in uniform and fully equipped at the armory.
100 years ago: Feb. 11, 1909
Railroad tracks are being installed around the government building under construction at Broadway and Fountain Street; they will afford rapid transit of brick, stone and other construction materials which have yet to be carried from the storage yard at the rear of the site.
At a meeting of the board of directors of the Sturdivant Bank this week, the resignation of L.J. Albert Jr., cashier, was accepted, and Harry L. Matchen was selected to fill the vacancy; Albert has served 22 years with Sturdivant Bank.
