Six candidates have filed for two seats on the Oak Ridge Board of Education, including incumbents Daniel Seabaugh and Charles Myers; the other candidates are Judy Abrisz, Carol Ruesler, Mary King and Paul Huffman.
The week of Feb. 13 to 19 has been proclaimed Jane Albrecht Week in Scott City, and a special dinner and dance have been planned in her honor Feb. 19; Albrecht, a 30-year resident of Scott City, has been involved in numerous projects in the area, most notably the annual PTO Follies.
Deeds for two tracts of land, each 22 acres, are transferred to representatives of Boy Scout and Girl Scout organizations by the Cape Girardeau County Court; the tracts are at a point opposite the spot that will become the main entrance to Trail of Tears State Park; the ground is part of the original Ode Windeknecht tract.
R.S. Cunningham, a farmer and dairy farmer for many years in Cape Girardeau County, has filed for the Democratic nomination for presiding judge of the county court.

A committee is appointed to inspect sites in the vicinity of U.S. 61 and West Broadway suitable for the location of a large arena, which it is hoped will be built this year to house the first Southeast Missouri Livestock and Horse Show; the committee is composed of A.M. Schonhoff, S.P. Lail, A.E. Miles, C.R. Query, Joe Smith and Bert Knox.
Plans are being made for a big high school track and oratorical meet on May 8 and 9 at the Normal School; last year's competition, confined to only one day, was found too crowded with events, which led to a great deal of dissatisfaction among participants and spectators.
A meeting of the officers of the several companies of the Sixth Battalion and of the staff is being held in Cape Girardeau to elect staff officers for the Sixth Regiment, which was created by the War Department last week.
