House Speaker Kenneth Rothman has pledged his support for state-funded construction of additional science laboratories and classrooms at Southeast Missouri State University; Rothman's endorsement follows a Feb. 1 tour of the campus.
A feasibility study committee of 15 members has been formed by interested Lutherans of Missouri-Synod in Southeast Missouri investigating the possibility of a Lutheran high school in the region; 30 congregations, with membership of more than 2,000, support the concept.
Because of action taken by the county court Monday, Delta no longer exists; residents of Delta had petitioned the court to shift it from a fourth-class city to a village; the court's action, however, merely dissolved the city; another petition will be needed for it to become a village again.
The revenue and obligation bonds of Jackson were sold last night when bids were opened by the city council; George K. Baum and Stern Bros. of Kansas secured $160,000 of general bonds, and G.H. Walker & Co. of St. Louis purchased the $160,000 of revenue bonds.
Within three months, Illmo will have another industry which will employ from 350 to 700 people, if present arrangements being made by the Ely and Walker Dry Goods Co. of St. Louis are carried out; negotiations have been completed for the company to take over the building formerly occupied by Menzies Shoe Co. factory, and it will be converted into an overall and trouser factory.
Fred Meyer's bloodhounds are taken to Doniphan, Mo., to trail thieves who broke into the A.J. Thomas store.
The county court opened bids for the county printing yesterday, and the contract for 1905 was awarded to The Weekly Republican; in the future all articles and notices pertaining to the county will be printed only in that newspaper.
The number of first-class barber shops in Cape Girardeau will be increased the first part of next week; T.P. Matthews has returned to Cape Girardeau from St. Louis and is installing fixtures for a metropolitan shop on upper Broadway, next to Bauer Bros. bakery.
