CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Major Oscar T. Honey, retired bandmaster and a former mayor of Chaffee, died last night at a St. Louis hospital at age 77; he began his career as director and officer in charge of the 140th Infantry Band, serving in that capacity for 20 years before being inducted in December 1940.

Alexander County Sheriff Earl A. Shepard Jr., discounts any organized gangster involvement in Friday's bombing of the Sahara Club at McClure, Ill.; Shepard believes the motive is probably a personal grudge against the operators of the tavern.

Plans are to begin operating the brewery at Old Appleton again within the next two weeks and to have its product on the market by April 15; officers of the Appleton Brewery Co., were in Cape Girardeau yesterday to apply for incorporation papers and for a government permit to operate.

The interior of the Doyle Hat Shop, 120 Themis St., is being remodeled and redecorated; modernistic front and side show windows are being built, and new show cases installed.

1914

The residents of Allenville are planning to build a town hall at a cost of between $700 and $800; it will be used as an administration building for the business of the town and as a public meeting place.

Around 200 persons, of which about 10 were ladies, assemble in the circuit courtroom at Jackson to organize an anti-saloon league for Cape Girardeau County; after enthusiastic speeches by Dr. W.S. Dearmont, Dr. I.L. Holt, Sens. R.B. Oliver and T.F. Lane, F.A. McGuire and Judge B.F. Davis, a slate of officers for the new organization is approved: E.W. Flentge, chairman; McGuire, vice chairman; W.W. Martin, secretary, and John G. Heinberg, treasurer.
