A suit demanding a halt to construction of the Main Street floodwall from Merriwether Street to Bellevue Street, or elsewhere on municipal property, has been filed in Common Pleas Court; the action was brought by L.R. Cain and Benjamin E. Dietrich.

The Cape Girardeau airport board employs Harold Long, a local architect, to design new administration facilities for the municipal airport; in a companion action, the board votes to hire John R. Walther as engineer for preliminary airport improvement planning.

75 years ago: Dec. 5, 1932

During the past week, 40 people were served at the free soup kitchen established by the Salvation Army at 525 Good Hope St.; the largest number served during any one day was eight people.

The Cape Girardeau City Council votes to pay one-third of the future cost of charity hospitalization of patients from this city in local hospitals; the County Court will meet Friday to consider whether it will obligate itself to pay the other two-thirds.

100 years ago: Dec. 5, 1907

The County Court is attempting to settle a dispute with the contractors of the new courthouse in Jackson, M.T. Lewman & Co. of Louisville, Ky.; changes to the original specifications are being called into question, such as the use of zinc instead of copper on the dome, columns composed of several pieces instead of one at the main entrances and the use of yellow pine flooring on the first and second floors instead of ceramic mosaic.

The meeting of the Commercial Club, scheduled for this evening, is canceled; the quorum necessary for doing club business doesn't materialize.
