Show Me Center's Board of Managers Wednesday endorsed proposal to expand center, despite strong objections from one board member over how such project might be funded; Charles C. Leming submitted letter to fellow board members objecting to proposal to use surplus money in city tourism fund to partially fund construction of addition for convention and meeting room space.

Loretta Schneider, former member of Cape Girardeau City Council and unsuccessful mayoral candidate, yesterday filed for election to one of three council terms that will expire next spring; Schneider was first woman elected to City Council in 1981.

25 years ago: Dec. 5, 1976

The Rev. Oscar A. Gerken ordains the Rev. Leslie J. Mitkos Jr. as minister of Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in afternoon ceremony at Trinity Lutheran Church; Mitkos served as vicar under direction of Gerken in 1975.

First Presbyterian Church has attained services of new associate minister; the Rev. Sam Peters of Belton Presbyterian Church in Belton, S.C., along with his family, will be moving to Cape Girardeau first week of January.

50 years ago: Dec. 5, 1951

Temporary injunction restraining members of Local 675, Hotel and Restaurant Employees and Bartenders International Union, A.F.L., from picketing Hotel Idan-Ha is issued by Judge J. Henry Caruthers in Common Pleas Court, and notice is serviced at 1 p.m. on pickets on duty about the place.

Dr. Sylvester Doggett, 322 S. Spanish, was injured yesterday in fall from roof of barn being erected on his farm located two miles east of Benton on Highway 55; Doggett was standing on rafter at the top, when it suddenly broke, causing him to fall about 20 feet; he sustained fractured pelvis, head injury and body bruises.

75 years ago: Dec. 5, 1926

The Rev. R.M. Barrett of Oakland City, Ind., field worker for General Baptist denomination, preaches in hall over J.C. Cole store in Red Star suburb; Barrett hopes to organize and establish permanent General Baptist church in city.

Sound-absorbing material, used extensively in broadcasting stations, is being installed on ceiling of new building of First Baptist Church in order to aid acoustics of large church auditorium; material, acoutsti-cellotex, is made by patented process from hull of cane stalk and absorbs all sound.
