Jess Hopple of 2700 Bloomfield Road files a nominating petition for Cape Girardeau's Ward 6 city council seat; it's Hopple's second try at the council; in 1991, he filed as a candidate, but was declared ineligible because he hadn't been a resident of the city for the requisite four years prior to the 1992 election.

The dismissal of 10 production employees has prompted a filing by Teamsters and Chauffeurs Local 574 of an unfair labor practices charge against Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Jackson, which shut down bottling operations two weeks ago.

A man who escaped from the Bollinger County jail at Marble Hill little more than a week ago broke out of the Cape Girardeau County Jail in Jackson Sunday, but was recaptured the same night.

50 years ago: Dec. 4, 1953

Webster Society, for 62 years one of the leading men's social organizations at State College, will pass on Saturday; active members will be absorbed into the national membership of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Adolph Reisenbichler, 62, who farms a mile northeast of Pocahontas, sustained a severe wound in his left thigh yesterday when a boar hog attacked him.

75 years ago: Dec. 4, 1928

A budget of $713,500 for the next biennial period, including $150,000 for a new library and museum building, will be sought by Teachers College at the legislature.

Sheriff-elect Nat Miller Snider will maintain two offices when he takes over his duties Jan. 1; one will be at Jackson and the other in the Common Pleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau.
