Another legal obstacle has been placed in the path of the multipurpose building project; a four-count lawsuit was filed yesterday in Circuit Court by project opponents; among other things, the new suit asks the court to declare last year's bond issue and gross receipts tax elections "void and of no effect."

Cape Girardeau County Circuit Judge A.J. Seyer is one of 10 presiding judges who have been appointed by the Missouri Supreme Court to serve on the Presiding Judge's Executive Committee.

50 years ago: Dec. 27, 1959

Mr. and Mrs. John Brunkhorst of Cape Girardeau have purchased the Lorimier Supply Co. from Rupert Fiehler; the business was originally owned by former resident Earl Lorimier.

Christmas Day was spent in Bethlehem by Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Bahn during a tour of the Middle East, according to his mother, Mrs. W.C. Bahn of Cape Girardeau; Dr. Bahn is on leave from his post with the speech department of Wayne University in Detroit.

75 years ago: Dec. 27, 1934

Orville Zimmerman of Kennett, Mo., the new congressman from the 10th District, leaves for Washington, D.C.; he hopes to secure appointment to two committees particularly concerned with Southeast Missouri affairs: The flood control and reclamation irrigation committees.

Circuit Court orders approving the sale of two additional parcels of real estate owned by the closed Sturdivant Bank are received; they include a 160-acre tract in New Madrid County, south of Parma, Mo., and about 51 acres at the edge of the Mississippi River near Cape Rock, but outside the city limits; the latter tract will be purchased by Peter H. Deimund.

100 years ago: Dec. 27, 1909

Ben Vinyard of Jackson is in Cape Girardeau to take charge of the sales department and the development of the new residence section that will be built in the southwest part of the city, on land lately bought by Ralph Armantrout and others; the 10 acres will be laid off into building lots and sold at auction in early spring.

A.R. Ponder of Texas arrives on the Gulf train for a visit with friends; he is accompanied by Mrs. Ponder's sister, Genevieve Stokes of Malden, Mo.
