1987

Jackson Ward 3 Alderman Glenn Oldham has filed for re-election, while a contest has developed for the Ward 1 seat on the Jackson Board of Aldermen; Don Crowder filed yesterday for the seat held by David Ludwig, who filed for re-election Monday.

Dr. David M. Trantham has been appointed medical director of emergency and trauma services at Saint Francis Medical Center; he succeeds Dr. Edwin K. Burford, who will retire Dec. 31 after 10 years in the position.

1962

The possibility exists that Cape Girardeau may have its third white Christmas in a row; the forecast is for snow over most of the state tonight, spreading eastward with at least a light fall possible in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.

The religious observance of Christmas begins in the evening, with services at Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Andrew Lutheran Church; Midnight Masses are conducted at St. Vincent's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Cathedral.

1937

At least 325 baskets of food and toys, carrying Christmas cheer to that number of families, are distributed from the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce building; helping with the distribution are members of the Ministerial Alliance, Salvation Army and Boy Scouts, city employees and others.

Christ Episcopal Church holds its annual Christmas midnight worship, the service beginning at 11 p.m.; rector of the church is the Rev. A. Beardsley.

1912

Mrs. Phillip Heyde, formerly of Jackson and who now lives in Illinois, passes through Cape Girardeau on her way to the county seat to spend Christmas with her children.

The board of supervisors of the Cape Girardeau Township Special Road District met recently and made an estimate of the district's resources for the coming year; from best information, it is estimated the district will have nearly $11,000.
