According to Col. Alfred J. D'Arezzo, district engineer with the Corps of Engineers in St.. Louis, construction to complete the Mississippi River floodwall here is expected to begin in April; the corps will seek bids for the $1 million-plus project in March.

KENNETT, Mo. -- Full support of an effort to construct a bridge linking Missouri and Tennessee near Caruthersville, Mo., has been pledged by Sen. Stuart Symington, D.-Mo., in a letter to Dr. W.L. Spence, chairman of the Mississippi River Bridge Commission; Symington joins Sen. Estes Kefauver, D.-Tenn., and other members of the Congressional delegations from the two states in the effort to have the bridge erected.

The Rev. E.E. Drope, pastor of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in the Smelterville suburb, also has taken over the pastorate of the church of the same denomination on North Main Street.

A Christmas vesper service, sponsored each year by the Young Women's and Young Men's Christian associations of the Teachers College, is held in the afternoon in the college auditorium.

Six teams are being used to grade Maple Street in South Cape Girardeau, the work being done by L.L. Dalton for L.B. Houck, who owns the houses on either side of the street and who desires to give his tenants a better street to and from their homes.

Virgil Wilson, formerly of Cape Girardeau, is here on a visit to friends and relatives after about four years' residence in Billings, Mont., where he and his brothers, Paul and Joe, are in the construction business.
