Calvary Cross International Fundamental Church, 38 S. Spanish St., recently formed into a congregation and held its first service Dec. 4; pastor of the church is the Rev. Charles W. Hovis of Marble Hill, Mo.; he was ordained by the Association of Fundamental Ministers and Churches Inc. in 1960.
Cape Bible Chapel holds Sunday services in its new building at the corner of North Mount Auburn and Kage roads; in addition to regular morning worship services, the annual Christmas program is presented in the evening by the entire Sunday School and Adult Choir.

A year ago today, a devastating tornado struck Chaffee, Mo., largely centering its fury on the business section and causing damage estimated at $1 million; the community has built back in the face of adversity, overcoming many obstacles as it did so.
Passage this week of a Cape Girardeau ordinance granting up to 90 days of sick leave with full pay to city employees adds another fringe benefit to those who are on the municipal payroll.

Cape Girardeau County's quota for women to be employed under the Civil Works Service has been limited to 15; efforts are being made to increase this number; plans that had been made to open a sewing room to manufacture garments are now in doubt.
PERRYVILLE, Mo. — After paying off three claims for wolf bounties, the Perry County Court has voted to discontinue the $10-per-head bonus; it is explained that the state formerly paid half of the bounties, but in recent years has declined to do so; the court feels it is too much of a burden to pay the full $10 when a wolf is slain.
100 years ago: Dec. 18, 1908
Superintendent of schools A.W. Lawson and wife held a reception last night at their home, 612 North St., honoring Mrs. W.H. Haupt; she will leave tomorrow to join her husband at Rockford, Ill., where they will reside; Haupt has supervised drawing and music in the public schools of Cape Girardeau for nearly two years.
It is announced that the Christmas holidays will begin with the dismissal of classes today.
