William T. Drury, 38, and his son, Brandon, 13, escaped unharmed yesterday afternoon after making an emergency landing in an alfalfa field near Jackson.
Until recently, when someone on campus of Southeast Missouri State University dialed 911, the call went to the Cape Girardeau Police Department; but now that Cape Girardeau, Jackson and county are on line with new or improved 911 systems, the university has followed suit, and emergency calls go directly to the university police.

Bids are opened for the final phase of construction of Cape Girardeau city-school swimming pool, with Jackson Excavating Co. submitting the low base bid of $495,836 for pool's bathhouse, decking and site work.

Sikeston. Mo. -- Appointment of Bank of Sikeston as liquidation agent for closed Peoples Bank is announced; Bank of Sikeston has authority that is usually placed in individual in liquidating a closed institution's affairs.
W.J. Hamilton, who for the past month has been in charge of Hotel Marquette, leaves for the East.
