President Reagan's decision to allow air traffic controllers to seek other federal jobs is a "farce," says Charles T. Ervin, president of the now decertified Cape Girardeau Local 466 of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization.

Calvin R. Wells of Cape Girardeau, a former schoolteacher who now handles government affairs for Missouri Utilities Co., has become the third Republican to file for the 156th District Missouri House.

50 years ago: Dec. 10, 1956

A.E. Keller, chairman of the board of trustees of Osteopathic Hospital Corp., announces the completion of a purchase agreement with the Central Packing Co., for approximately 9.94 acres of ground on Minnesota Avenue adjoining the new grade school property.

Marvin Rosengarten, former State College athlete and now assistant football coach of the high school at Sikeston, Mo., set four new records in the State A.A.U. weight-lifting contests held over the weekend at Houck Field House; competing in the 198 weight class, Rosengarten lifted 245 pounds from the press, 240 pounds in the snatch and 330 pounds from the jerk for a record in each and his total of 815 pounds for the three was also a record.

75 years ago: Dec. 10, 1931

Completion of the intake on the Mississippi River at Cape Rock for the new Missouri Utilities Co. water plant has been slowed by the high stage of the river; taking advantage of this delay, company officials have rushed construction of the pump house.

Workers for contractor Linus Penzel place the last bit of concrete floor on the highway bridge at Old Appleton, on Highway 25; after about three days, the handrail will be in place, and the bridge will be completed.

100 years ago: Dec. 10, 1906

A lawsuit to condemn the Ruesskamp and Rodney property at the southeast corner of Broadway and Fountain Street in Cape Girardeau for the government's use was filed in the circuit court Saturday at St. Louis.

Work on the new trust building at the northwest corner of Broadway and Fountain is moving right along, despite the bad weather.
