Cape Girardeau City Council member Loretta Schneider has been elected to the board of directors of Women in Municipal Government; the national group serves as a forum for communication among women and local officials within the framework of the National League of Cities organization.

Three Southeast Missouri State University dormitory residents are arrested and charged with stealing two Cape Girardeau downtown banners and a Christmas wreath from the 100 block of North Main Street; the trio is nabbed by police, after being spotted about 2 a.m. by a witness walking along North Main with the stolen items; 15 banners have been stolen within the past six weeks.

50 years ago: Dec. 1, 1959

Alvin Macke, business manager of The Missourian, was honored by his co-workers at a dinner last night in observance of his 50th anniversary with the newspaper; he started work on the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, 1909.

Dec. 15 is the date set for the voters of Ancell and Fornfelt to go to the polls to vote on consolidation of the two towns.

75 years ago: Dec. 1, 1934

A Cape Girardeau family got a real taste of winter during the Thanksgiving holiday; Mr. and Mrs. R.E.L. Lamkin and son, Jack, were marooned in a snowstorm at Marshall, Mo., where they were visiting Mr. Lamkin's mother, Mrs. J.C. Lamkin; the snow measured about 1 1/2 feet, and the thermometer went several degrees below freezing.

The Salvation Army furnished meals to 119 persons Thanksgiving Day at the Army building, 207 Broadway; the third floor was converted into a large dining room; the government furnished veal for the meal; sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, gravy and slaw were added to make the meal more appetizing.

100 years ago: Dec. 1, 1909

Henry Senn, 67, died Monday night at his home, about 8 miles from Cape Girardeau, near Pecan Grove; Senn was a native of Germany, but had lived in this county nearly all his life; he was a veteran of the Civil War; he is survived by a widow and several children.

Proprietors of the Star Bar, northeast corner of Good Hope and Sprigg streets, advertises they will serve a big goose lunch Saturday.
