The co-owner of a local restaurant and sales director at a motel complex here are named Tourism Ambassador and Hospitality Host, respectively, at the third annual Tourism Awards Banquet; Mary Foote, co-owner of Port Cape Girardeau, is named Tourism Ambassador, and G. Kirk Williams, sales director at Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge, is the 1981 Hospitality Host recipient.

50 years ago: Nov. 8, 1957

Cape Girardeau has been assigned a 200-bed Civil Defense Emergency Hospital, which will be stored in the National Guard Armory for use in the case of a natural disaster or in the event of an enemy attack.

The hopes of the Cape State Indians of winning the 1957 football championship of the MIAA Conference hinges on the outcome of the final two games of the season with Maryville (Mo.) Bears tomorrow and the Rolla (Mo.) Miners next Saturday; the Indians lead the conference with two wins and a tie.

75 years ago: Nov. 8, 1932

Two weeks will be necessary to make a complete inventory of the affairs of the closed Sturdivant Bank; until then, no public statement regarding its condition will be made by the state finance department; C.M. Duncan of Poplar Bluff, Mo., will be the bank examiner in charge of the work.

Probably the oldest voter to cast a ballot in today's presidential election in Cape Girardeau is. Frances Abernathy, who will be 93 years old Dec. 29; as always, she votes the straight Democratic ticket.

100 years ago: Nov. 8, 1907

Cape Girardeau's gamblers and street walkers aren't very jubilant these days; since John Macke and Will Stevens were sworn in the city's police force, things have changed. Women who were to be seen most promiscuously on the streets at night have disappeared, and gamblers are busy watching developments.

The Jackson Military Academy football team pushes the Normal School contingent all over the field, but the game ends in a scoreless tie.
