The Rev. David V. Dissen, who formerly served First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clearwater, Fla., is installed as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau; Dr. Robert Sauer, first vice president of the national Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, is the guest speaker.

The congregation of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau observes the 135th anniversary of the organization of the congregation, along with its annual Fall Mission Festival; Hanover Lutheran organized in 1846.

50 years ago: Nov. 8, 1956

The first real semblance of winter weather is noticed in Cape Girardeau, and the prediction is that temperatures will become even more winter-like overnight, when the mercury dips deep into the 30s; a shower of rain early in the morning develops into a brief snow flurry as temperatures continue to drop after daylight.

BELL CITY, Mo. -- Sheriff Howard Davis of Stoddard County is investigating the burglary of the Hopkins IGA store in Bell City; much loot was taken, including 192 pounds of coffee and 75 or 80 cartons of cigarettes.

75 years ago: Nov. 8, 1931

L.F. Ives of Steeleville, Mo., has purchased a farm near Arbor and has already shipped seven car loads of Hereford cattle to the place as feeders; the farm has 120 acres; heretofore, Ives has been purchasing his feed in this section and transporting it to his operation at Steeleville.

About 40 members of the Altenthal-Joerns Post of the American Legion attend services at the Evangelical Church in Jackson in the morning; in his Armistice Day sermon, the Rev. W. Siebert, pastor, pleads for peace.

100 years ago: Nov. 8, 1906

Word has been received by the committee of the Cape Girardeau Commercial Club, appointed to negotiate with the Roberts, Johnson & Rand Co. of St. Louis, that the firm's officers will come to this city next Tuesday afternoon; the shoemakers had been expected this week, but were delayed because of the elections and other pressing matters.

The L.E. Lines Music Co. on Broadway has received an electric piano, which is on exhibition; it is the first one brought to Cape Girardeau and is a wonderful instrument.
