Charleston, Mo. -- Cape Girardeau Central Tigers made shambles of Charleston's vaunted offense and defense as they crushed Bluejays, 55-6, to move into next weekend's Class 4A quarterfinals against Northwest of House Springs; Tiger offense rolled up 364 yards, while defense held Charleston scoreless until final 10 seconds of football game.

Jackson City Council has voted to protest increase in gas rates; Associated Natural Gas Co. has asked Public Service Commission for authority to increase rates, from 2 percent to 30 percent, depending on classification of user; minimum rate of $2 for residential and commercial users won't change except for those using gas for heating only.
Four Scout districts within Southeast Missouri Council will be united into one big district soon; four districts to be absorbed are Current River, Big Spring, Poplar Bluff and Matchicebe (Wayne County) districts.
75 years ago: Nov. 4, 1928
Last deed for right of way for highway from traffic bridge across Mississippi River to McClure, Ill., has been secured by Illinois State Highway Commission; it is believed it will be but few days until contract for construction and paving of 5 1/2-mile stretch of road connecting bridge will be awarded.
Question of how politics can be Christianized so that national issues may receive more serious consideration is discussed by Walter Asling of Gordonville at annual convention of Southeast Missouri division of Warrenton District of Epworth Leagues of Methodist Church at Zion Church, two miles west of Gordonville.
