50 years ago: Nov. 30, 1957

The search for Robert E. Thorne, 12, of near Burfordville, centers on Gravel Hill, Mo., after an estimated 200 men worked in bitter cold temperatures last night hunting for the boy; Thorne, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Thorne, left home yesterday afternoon without explanation, taking a dog and a 16-gauge shotgun.

Broadway actress Jo Sullivan is home visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Sullivan of Cape Girardeau; she has been playing the female lead in "Most Happy Fellow" for the past 18 months.

75 years ago: Nov. 30, 1932

John V. Priest, secretary-treasurer of the Jackson Mercantile Co., is the new president of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce; other officers are Robert B. Goodwin, vice president, and R.L. Wilson, secretary-treasurer.

August W. Boeller of Old Appleton, visiting his son, Herbert R. Boeller of Cape Girardeau, attended the anniversary meeting of the Masonic Lodge last night; he is the only member of the order in his town, and he says he gets mighty lonesome for the craft; he is a member of Excelsior Lodge at Jackson.

100 years ago: Nov. 30, 1907

Bearing good cheer to the old and poor residents of the County Farm, the women of the Christian Temperance Union made a pilgrimage there Thanksgiving afternoon, accompanied by the Rev. J.O. Willett of the Baptist church; 19 inmates were found to be enjoying a good home and kind treatment.

For some unknown reason, the water service in Cape Girardeau is turned off again in the morning; there is no telling when relief will come.
