In an effort to combat vandalism and littering, the Cape Girardeau City Council is considering the imposition of a curfew at city-owned cemeteries; under the measure being considered, people would be barred from the cemeteries between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission approves a 10-year unfunded needs study that includes making Highway 60 between Sikeston and Willow Springs, Missouri, four lanes.
City firemen, supported by fire commissioner Dewey Hinton, renewed their efforts yesterday to gain equal pay with city policeman; they were told by Mayor W.E. Davis that the city council would reach a decision by Nov. 16.
The Cape Girardeau City Council has approved Mayor W.E. Davis' appointment of a nine-member Human Rights Commission; members are Mrs. Stephen N. Limbaugh, David A. Graves, Ralph Edwards, Mrs. Mary Thomas, Monsignor Leo Kampmann, chief of police Irvin E. Beard, Arthur Squires, Hugh McCall and the Rev. J.W. Moseley.
Camp Lewallen, the official camp of the Southeast Missouri Area Council of Boy Scouts, located on the St. Francis River 70 miles west of Cape Girardeau, was dedicated yesterday afternoon in the presence of 250; Dr. W.W. Parker, president of the council, dedicated the 263-acre site and its extensive improvements.
When N.E. Frisby found a fruit jar in the basement of his Poplar Bluff, Missouri, hotel yesterday, filled with $670,000 in government notes, he thought he was a wealthy man; today he learns that the notes are "had-been money," used a couple decades ago in transferring funds between banks, and are worthless.
Property owners in the new addition to the city known as Matteson Terrace are preparing to open Bellevue Street from Pacific Street to Henderson Avenue; they have petitioned the city council to give them a grade for Bellevue Street; Robert M. Matteson and several members of the Bahn family, every one of whom has purchased a lot in the addition, had their names on the petition.
