A twin-engine charter airplane landed safely at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport last night after circling the strip for 30 minutes; the plane, piloted by Regie Hopwood of Malden, Mo., was en route to Poplar Bluff, Mo., when an indicator light signaled a problem.

Volunteers were kept busy at the Salvation Army's annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, held yesterday at the Army's new headquarters, 701 Good Hope St.; more than 225 meals were served.

50 years ago: Nov. 29, 1960

The generosity of residents in smaller towns surrounding Cape Girardeau, as well as local citizens, has assured those in charge of continued operation for the preschool unit of the Training Center for Handicapped Children for another year; four towns -- Jackson, Scott City, Kelso and Chaffee, Mo. -- recently conducted a fund drive in behalf of the school, raising $990.

Bishop Marion F. Forst of Dodge City, Kan., formerly pastor of St. Mary's Cathedral, spent Thanksgiving week in Spain administering the Sacrament of Confirmation to members of the U.S. military and their families stationed in Zaragosa and Seville.

75 years ago: Nov. 29, 1935

IRONTON, Mo. -- Denver M. Wright of St. Louis and his companions quit their chilly camp at the foot of Pine Mountain, 10 miles west of here, yesterday so the wolf hunter could eat Thanksgiving dinner at home in the city; Wright, who has tasted defeat in Perry, Cape Girardeau and Iron counties, says he is a long way from quitting his wolf hunt.

At the suggestion of assistant state geologist H.S. McQueen, a series of explosives are being set off at varying depths in the Jackson city water well in an effort to increase the town's water supply.

100 years ago: Nov. 29, 1910

After 53 years in existence, the Bahn hardware store is to be closed; with other business interests requiring his attention, Judge Rudolph Bahn has decided to sell out; the store was founded in 1826 by Bernhard Bahn, a native of Germany.

Directors and others interested in the building of the Cairo & Thebes Railroad make a trip of inspection of the road, going all the way from the Cairo, Ill., terminals to Thebes, Ill.; they stop at the intermediate stations of Cache, Miller City and Fayville, Ill.
