Cape Girardeau County's third grand jury since July is sworn in by Presiding Circuit Judge A.J. Seier, who notes that the jury was being empanelled upon the recommendation of the two previous grand juries.
Leon J. Bahn, a member of a pioneer Cape Girardeau family and for many years the owner of a downtown hardware store here, died Saturday at a hospital in Columbia, Mo.; he was 90 years old.

Charles Beardslee, stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., suffers a dislocated shoulder at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport while pushing an airplane; Beardslee had visited over the holiday at Illmo and was preparing to return to Kentucky; after refueling, he was helping to push the plane into position for takeoff when he was injured.
An operating budget of $2,000 for the current year was submitted and accepted by the newly organized board of directors of the Cape Girardeau Symphony Orchestra last night, presided over by the president, William A. Gerhardt; the budget is based upon anticipated expenses of two adult and one children's concert.
An application by Val Fischer for a permit to erect a small, one-story frame building on the east side of North Frederick Street, between Emerald and Amethyst streets, to be used as a bakery, is denied; city engineer E.L. The Jackson football team played and defeated Moothart College yesterday at Jackson in the most interesting competition of the year; the Jackson boys, outweighed nearly 20 pounds to the man, went on the field and played the visitors to a standstill, winning by a score 6-0.
Will and Lee Bowman tried their hands with the gun yesterday afternoon, but came back with only one rabbit.
