St. Paul Lutheran Church of Jackson observes the 20th anniversary of the dedication of its present church building; guest speaker for the occasion is the Rev. James Knuth, vicar of St. Paul during 1965-1966; he is Lutheran campus pastor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

The Christian Motorcyclist Association has formed a local club bearing the name "SEMO Son Riders": Charles Hawn of Marble Hill, Mo., is president of the local club.

50 years ago: Nov. 28, 1957

Thanksgiving Day. Businesses and industries suspend for the day, allowing Cape Girardeans to celebrate the holiday in the traditional manner, with family dinners highlighting the occasion; the annual union Thanksgiving service, sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance, is held at First Presbyterian Church.

The Central High School Tigers find the leg action of one of the Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Mules, Jerry Hinchey, too much to handle at Houck Stadium, as they end the football season with a 33-0 defeat.

75 years ago: Nov. 28, 1932

A few workers were kept busy Sunday, taking advantage of fair weather, on the Highway 34 project in Cape Girardeau County; the men were handling five teams, tractors and graders and were doing culvert work; the new highway will cross Whitewater River 300 yards north of the covered bridge now in use at Burfordville.

Excavation for the basement of a dwelling for Mrs. Lena Ruppel of Jackson begins in the block on Themis Street between Benton and Hanover streets in Cape Girardeau; the one-story brick structure will contain five rooms; Julius Vasterling is the contractor.

100 years ago: Nov. 28, 1907

Thanksgiving Day. The Thanksgiving union service is held in the morning at the Presbyterian Church; the Protestant churches of Cape Girardeau, with the exception of the Lutheran, takes part; a special program of music is given, and the Rev. W.H. Whitnell, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, delivers the sermon.

The Elks holds their first annual Thanksgiving ball in the magnificent ballroom of their clubhouse; several visiting girls in the city receive special attention.
