A former Cape Girardeau realtor, Herbert L. Annis, has become the 12th candidate to seek a place on the seven-member Cape Girardeau charter council to be elected in April.

Cape Girardeau Mayor Howard C. Took purchased the first subsidized taxi service coupon book from city transit supervisor Steve Engelman; the coupon books will go on sale Monday at city hall to residents past the age of 60 or permanently handicapped.

50 years ago: Nov. 28, 1956

Temporary administration facilities have been created in the north end of the first hangar at municipal airport for Cape Central Airways and Ozark Air Lines, both companies having lost equipment and office facilities Sunday morning in a fire which destroyed the flight control building at the field; efforts are being made to have facilities ready so Ozark flights can be resumed Saturday morning on the regular schedule.

The Rev. Charles H. Helmsing is installed as bishop of the new Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese at St. Agnes Cathedral in Springfield, Mo.

75 years ago: Nov. 28, 1931

No further operation of motor busses on Cape Girardeau streets is reported planned by the City Services Co., following the removal of three large Studebaker buses to St. Louis late yesterday under an attachment suit filed in Common Pleas Court; the company had operated for a time this year from the Winchester-Emerson garage on South Main Street.

Cape Girardeau Mayor Edward L. Drum and city counselor Frank A. Lowry return from Jefferson City, where they appeared before the Public Service Commission in a hearing of the valuating of properties of the Missouri Utilities Co.

100 years ago: Nov. 28, 1906

Two basketball teams made up from the girls' literary societies of the Normal School will compete in a game tomorrow evening in the gymnasium in Academic Hall; this starts the season of basketball, which will now take the stage after football is abandoned.

Ralph Davis of Bluffton, Ind., is in Cape Girardeau visiting his sister, Mrs. H.C. Hutchison.
