A Shih Tzu puppy -- "Dragonfire's The Great Draco" -- bred and trained by its owner, Peggy A. Hogg of Chapin, Ill., upset the competition and captured overall honors at yesterday's Southeast Missouri Kennel Club's Golden Anniversary Dog Show held at the Arena.

50 years ago: Nov. 27, 1958

Thanksgiving Day. A community worship service, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Ministerial Alliance, is held at General Baptist Church; the Thanksgiving message -- "The Inexhaustible Riches of Christ" -- is delivered by the Rev. Thomas D. Hill, pastor of Red Star Baptist Church.

The Central High Tigers close out their 1958 football season in poor form, falling to the Poplar Bluff Mules, 40-3; Jackson also ends the season on a sour note, losing to the Perryville Pirates 13-0.

A vigorous round of workouts is being assigned the Jackson Indians by coach Ryland Milner, who is grooming then for their all-important gridiron battle with Central's Tigers scheduled for Houck Field Stadium Thanksgiving Day.

A frame garage building is being built at the south end of the city property near the police and fire department building; the building will shelter the Buick sedan used by the police department.

100 years ago: Nov. 27, 1908

E.M. Jones is closing up the membership of the Little River Hunting and Fishing Club at Lilbourn, Mo.; his club is the latest organization in the great duck and fishing district of the Little River territory; its club house is on the bank of the river a mile west of Lilbourn at the juncture of the Cotton Belt and Frisco railroads.

The people of Edna are rejoicing because the Houck railroad will be running trains into their town within a few months; then they will be able to come to Cape Girardeau whenever they choose.
