Jackson city police and fire department personnel are preparing to move into the new Jackson Public Safety building; the present police station is a four-room brick building with less than 700 square feet of space; the fire department shares space with the street department in a brick building it has occupied since 1954.

More than 10 percent of the registered voters in Cape Girardeau County are improperly registered and are in jeopardy of having their names pulled from voter registration books.

Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of the late President, will be the principal speaker next year at the annual meeting of the Southeast Missouri Teachers Association; she will speak in the evening of the one-day meeting on Oct. 18 at Houck Field House.

Four Cape Girardeans were included in a list of 553 honorary colonels appointed Monday by Gov.-elect James T. Blair Jr.; they are county Democratic chairman Hinkle Statler, Dr. V. Paul Grisham, Al Trapf and M.E. Leming Jr.

75 years ago: Nov. 27, 1931

Troop 6 of the Boy Scouts has established a toy shop in the basement of the Louis Eckelmann home on Cousin Street in Cape Girardeau; the Scouts will meet there each Saturday morning to make and repair toys, which they will give away to poor children at Christmas.

Cape Girardeau Central High School Tigers placed four players on the Southeast Missouri All-Star High School Football Team, Little Six Conference: Capt. Raymond Huebel, Walter Metje, Robert Erlbacher and Joe Barranco; placed on the team from Jackson High are Milton Swan, John Hartle and Woodrow Estel.

100 years ago: Nov. 27, 1906

Last evening Max J. Koeck of Chicago and F.W. Snyder of St. Louis returned to Cape Girardeau and consummated a deal whereby they will come into the possession of the majority of stock in the Cape Brewery and Ice. Co., and will take over management of the brewery.

A lodge of instruction is being held in Cape Girardeau, and many prominent Masons are in attendance; David M. Wilson, grand master of the Masons of Missouri, is here from Milan, Mo.
