25 years ago: Nov. 25, 1981

John A. Baker and Ben Capshaw are the latest to file for the Cape Girardeau City Council, bringing the number of candidates for the seven-member charter council to 11.

In an effort to curb mid-year graduation, the Jackson R-2 Board of Education has agreed to raise graduation requirements, beginning in the 1982-83 school year; the board agreed to raise the number of credits needed for graduation by one-half unit for the 1982-83 school year and another half unit in the 1983-84 school year.

50 years ago: Nov. 25, 1956

The Rev. Evelyn Taylor of St. Louis speaks in the morning and evening services at Foursquare Church, on its 17th anniversary; Taylor pioneered the church and was pastor here, using a tent and several rental buildings before the present structure was purchased.

The Rev. Arthur B. Geeson, rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Cape Girardeau, has decided to return to his former parish, St. Stephen's in San Antonio, Texas, after three months at the local church.

75 years ago: Nov. 25, 1931

Complete rehabilitation of the cotton gauze plant in Cape Girardeau will be carried out during December, and the plant will be ready for operation at increased capacity early in January, according to owner J.J. Tow, who returned yesterday from New York.

Installation of a central station burglar alarm system in Cape Girardeau will begin soon, and it will be in operation about Dec. 15; the Huett Detective Agency will be in charge of the system, which will at first serve about 15 business houses.

100 years ago: Nov. 25, 1906

At Trinity Lutheran Church, two visiting pastors occupy the pulpit at the two worship services during the day; services are conducted by the Rev. E. Mahnske of Egypt Mills and the Rev. H. Kellermann of Hanover Lutheran Church.

Sunday School is held at the German M.E. Church in the morning, and preaching services are conducted by the Rev. Haman; there are no evening services, the Rev. T.O. Ludwig, pastor, being absent.
