Jack Oliver, a Cape Girardeau lawyer, was installed to his second term as president of the Southeast Missouri Council of the Boy Scouts of America at the council's annual meeting at Dexter, Missouri, last night.

Legislation will be introduced in the Missouri General Assembly when it convenes in January to form a Missouri-Illinois Bridge Commission to be charged with the construction of a bridge across the Mississippi River at Ste. Genevieve, Missouri; an identical bill will be introduced in the Illinois Legislature when it convenes.

1939

An earthquake, believed to have been centered in the Crystal City, Missouri, area, shook buildings in Cape Girardeau yesterday morning, but apparently did no great damage.

While Mr. and Mrs. Walter Krieger were attending Thanksgiving Day services last night at Trinity Lutheran Church, the right front wheel and tire were stolen off their 1937 model Chevrolet sedan.

Several petitions are being circulated asking the city council and mayor to authorize a municipal Christmas tree; organizations supporting the movement include the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, Knights and Ladies of Security, Woodmen of the World, Cape City Lodge BPO Elks, Cape Girardeau Provident Association, Knights of Columbus, St. Mark's Lodge AF&AM. and the Retail Merchants Association.

G.W. Abell, manager for the Chero-Cola Co., arrives from Paducah, Kentucky, to open a new factory here; most of the machinery has arrived, and workers will soon have the building ready.
