The Jackson community celebrates Thanksgiving early with a union service at the Assembly of God Church; the Rev. O. David Griffin, pastor of New McKendree United Methodist Church, delivers the Thanksgiving message.
Two Southeast Missouri State basketball players are among three young women who are killed in a two-car collision on Highway 61, a quarter-mile south of Scott City; the victims are Lisa S. Newman, 19, of Mattoon, Ill., and Susan Giudicy, 18, of Pevely, Mo., both Southeast basketball players, and Dawn A. Johnson, 21, of Sikeston, Mo., a former Southeast student and member of the basketball team.
Mayor Narvol A. Randol made a plea before the city council at a special session yesterday for a general conference with contractors and builders in the city to consider regulations which will make for orderly development of new subdivisions as they are opened; council members agreed that something needs to be done to eliminate the difficulties arising from the city's rapid growth.
Ra-Rob Construction Co. of Chester, Ill., has been given the contracts to build two District R-2 grade schools, one in Gordonville and the other in Jackson; construction is to begin within 10 days.
The First Church of Fundamentals is organized by the Rev. D.R. Thomas of the Interdenominational Bible Study Conference of Premillennialists, headquartered in Evansville, Ind.; 18 charter members are received into the church; services will be held at Common Pleas Courthouse, until arrangements for other quarters are made.
Several cars full of Jackson residents motor to Zalma, Mo., to view the new bridge that was dedicated Friday; among those making the trip are W.H. Wagner, J.R. Bowman, Martin Wagner and their families, Harry Hoffmeister and J.W. Wagner.
Charles Daues came over yesterday evening from Jackson and went down to Caruthersville, Mo., during the night to appear before Judge Riley on matters concerning the condemnation of some property in Allenville for school purposes; he returns today.
Ed Craig, the captain's son, went to Alton, Ill., Wednesday afternoon; he will try to charter a big ferry boat there to go into commission at this point.
