25 years ago: Nov. 21, 1985

The Cape Girardeau City Council has rejected the suggestion of council candidate Ken Richardson that the city drop its appeal of a circuit judge's decision barring the municipal government from any participation in the multipurpose building project.

By a vote of 6 to 1 last night, the Cape Girardeau City Council passed a resolution authorizing a continuation of the city's participation in the Federal Aviation Administration Tower Contracting Program for another year.

50 years ago: Nov. 21, 1960

Announcement of the establishment of a $250,000 industry for the processing of plastic products is made, as work begins on construction of a building to house the factory; to be operated by Atlas Plastics Corp., the plant will be on the Chamber of Commerce industrial tract south and across the street from the Edwards Sportswear plant and between Broadview and Arena Park.

Officers from two states throw a net around Giboney Island south of Cape Girardeau in the early afternoon in an effort to apprehend two men who stole a 20-foot boat near Festus, Mo., last night and abandoned it at the island as the Coast Guard and Corps of Engineers gave chase.

75 years ago: Nov. 21, 1935

A collection of 10,000 specimens of fossilized prehistoric animal life, valued at thousands of dollars, will be formally presented to State College by professor A.S. Duckworth, curator of museums at the college, Friday afternoon at a meeting of the board of regents.

The big two-story dwelling, one of the city's landmarks, on the Klostermann property recently purchased by the Columbus Club Association, is being razed to make room for the organization's new building; Anton Haas, contractor who will build the clubhouse, is doing the work.

100 years ago: Nov. 21, 1910

S.E. McCarty, the railroad magnate, was here last week to see his wife, who is attending the bedside of her father, Peter Carroll; McCarty says he has a new grading outfit working south of New Madrid, Mo., on his new line and is throwing up about a half mile of roadbed daily.

Cape Girardeau Normal will play the Kirksville, Mo., team for the State Normal School football championship Thanksgiving Day.
