Preparations for The Missourian's 12th annual Art Show are drawing to a close; the exhibition, to be held this weekend at The Missourian Building, will display a record 173 paintings by 85 artists from Cape Girardeau and the district; in addition, there will be a showing of 22 oil paintings by guest artist Billy Price Hosmer of Memphis, Tenn.

Application to the federal government for a loan and grant to cover the cost of construction of a municipal electric light and power plant in Cape Girardeau was filed Saturday by city counselor Frank A. Lowry; the loan asked is to be $517,074 and the grant, providing the project is approved, will be $168,149.
Marie Pott, 87 years old, a pioneer resident of Cape Girardeau and the oldest member of Trinity Lutheran Church, was found dead early yesterday morning at her home at 826 Themis St.; she was a native of Berlin and her maiden name was Kareau.
100 years ago: Nov. 20, 1908
The first wedding in the new Methodist church at Jackson, which is now being completed, was celebrated when the superintendent for Taylor Brothers, the contractors, sent to St. Louis for his bride; the Rev. M.T. Haw performed the ceremony for Henry Sutter and Dora Wollblock.
Lucian Minor, 78 years old, one of the oldest black men of Cape Girardeau, dies at noon; he was an old soldier and a Grand Army of the Republic man.
